Amazon’s Ring has announced its first-ever smart lock and new security cameras with better low-light performance. The smart lock addresses one key pain point of smart locks: dead batteries. But besides that, it’s like any other smart lock. It supports unlocking through fingerprint, a touchscreen keypad, or your phone with the Ring app.
Amazon Ring’s first smart lock aims to end battery anxiety
Amazon’s Ring wants to solve the dead-battery anxiety smartly with a built-in power dial. To prevent you from being locked out of your home, the Ring Smart Lock lets you crank the thumbturn a few times to produce the energy to power the lock for a brief period. That should be enough for you to get back in.
The smart lock lets you unlock it through your fingerprint, a touchscreen keypad, Alexa, or your phone with the Ring app. The Ring app also enables a bunch of features, like checking and locking the door remotely. Users will be able to decide who gets access, how they get it, and when the access expires from the app.
Ring Smart Lock also stays connected through Amazon Sidewalk, which is a shared network powered by nearby Amazon devices. This means remote locking, status updates, and PIN syncing all happen automatically without needing to rely on your home Wi-Fi.

New security cameras
The smart lock also integrates with Amazon Echo and other Ring doorbells and cameras you already own. It supports voice control through Amazon Echo and Alexa. The company says installation is pretty straightforward. It fits a standard single-cylinder deadbolt and doesn’t require any additional wiring. The Ring Smart Lock will cost $249 and will be available for purchase in the US in early 2027. It comes in black, silver, and brass finishes.
Besides the smart lock, Ring is also introducing new 4K cameras that support the Retinal Vision 4K standard. This should enable better low-light performance with accurate colors. The lineup includes the Outdoor Cam 4K Plus that costs $149.99, Floodlight Cam 4K Plus that sets you back $219.99, Spotlight Cam 4K Plus that costs $199.99, and Indoor Cam 4K that sets you back $99.99. The former two are available to pre-order today, while the latter is up for grabs. There’s also a Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam 2K, which costs $69.99 and brings 360-degree pan coverage.
