Google is reportedly working on a new AI agent called Remy that works within the Gemini app to boost Gemini’s capabilities. Google has technically talked about this before. At Google I/O last year the company gave an overview of new Gemini features where the tool would be able to do things for you like place an order for a pair of shoes it found book flights and things like that.
Rem sounds like it’s how Google is going to empower Gemini to do those kinds of things for users. Right now, Gemini is a fairly capable AI tool to have on your phone, but it doesn’t really do much for you beyond answering responses. Remy appears to be a full-on assistant that will handle your tasks just as you would, saving you time.
The Remy AI agent is being tested internally, and is deeply integrated across Google
According to a new report from Bloomberg (via Droid Life), Remy is being tested internally right now at Google with an employee-only version of Gemini. It has the capability to “take actions on your behalf” just like a real-life assistant would. Imagine being able to forget about certain things throughout the day because Remy will just do it for you from now on.
The agent is described as a personal agent for work, school, and daily life, and it’s working for you 24/7. In the background, ready to handle the tasks you don’t want to do yourself. Keep in mind that this would be limited to something that could actually be handled by an AI agent. It won’t vacuum the floors for you but it could potentially order you a new vacuum if yours breaks.
It’s also said that Remy is “deeply integrated across Google.” So, it would likely be integrated with Gmail, Calendar, and other Google apps or services on your phone to get things done for you where it can. It reportedly has the capability to take proactive measures and learn from your preferences over time. So if it does something you don’t mind doing yourself, it sounds like you could let it know and it would learn to leave those tasks alone perhaps.
