The PS6 price, much like the console’s actual existence and official name, has yet to be confirmed by Sony, but a new leak reportedly suggests that it could be a rather expensive piece of hardware when it comes to consoles. An expensive price tag is something that people are expecting with the PS6 due to current market conditions, specifically with the AI data center-driven RAM crisis that has caused prices to balloon for everything from phones to laptops. Essentially anything with RAM and storage in it.
According to the leak, this increased pricing is going to bleed into the PS6 cost for consumers, based on Sony’s increased bill of materials, which will be the company’s cost to actually manufacture the console. Sony has sold consoles at a loss in the past and has made up for the difference with software sales, PS Plus subscriptions, and the like. However, Sony has also said that it does not intend to sell hardware at a “significant loss.”
The PS6 price leak suggests that the console could cost more than $1,000
As a console, the PS6 has been suspected by the community to be a pricey piece of hardware ever since the RAM crisis really started to hit, but there really haven’t been any leaks that pointed to that being the case, just conjecture among users on the internet. Now, well-known leaker KeplerL2 is making a claim that just the storage and the RAM for the PS6 will cost Sony $680. Just for the RAM and storage, Sony’s bill of materials is said to already cost more than the entire initial price of the base PS5 before its first price increase.
Then you have to factor in Sony’s other costs, such as the CPU, GPU, motherboard, cooling, power supply, and more, like an included controller.
