Qualcomm’s strategy for wearables and personal AI devices is basically to be in as many devices as possible. This has been Qualcomm’s strategy over the last few years. Qualcomm is not only in phones and tablets, but also in earbuds, headphones, glasses, cars, and much more.
Qualcomm is moving beyond smartphones to a constellation of intelligent, on-body wearables to support the next generation of personal AI devices. This is despite Qualcomm saying the smartphone isn’t going anywhere, as it will be the hub for AI, as we reported earlier this week.
To support this vision, Qualcomm has launched a ton of Snapdragon technologies, including the lower-power sensing hub, tiered AI processing with the Hexagon NPU, and micro-power WiFi for direct cloud connectivity in small form factors. Qualcomm also has a number of processors used in these devices, such as the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 2, the Snapdragon Reality Elite, and, of course, the new Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 announced today.
Qualcomm showcased real-world applications for this vision in its Day 2 keynote
Real-world applications were demonstrated through key partnerships. Inspec showcased an enterprise-grade safety eyewear developed in just four months under the Snapdragon Start program, integrating a camera and AI capabilities for industrial work environments. Aware introduced “Agentic System One,” a new operating system centered around eyewear as the natural home for agentic computing.
Further expanding the vision, Qualcomm unveiled a reference design for a “Personal AI Pen” with standalone 5G and dual cameras. A significant new initiative, the “Personal AI Health Alliance,” was also announced, aiming to bring on-device AI to healthcare for applications like fall risk prediction and reducing clinical documentation burdens.
This really shows that Qualcomm is pushing all kinds of form factors, which they also had on display in the demo room today. Showing a number of smart glasses, smartwatches, headphones and more.
