During Qualcomm’s Day 2 keynote at Snapdragon Summit, the company was really highlighting its partners. Of course, Google is one of its biggest partners. While Google doesn’t use Snapdragon in its smartphones, it does use it in virtually every other device that it makes. This includes the Pixel Watch 5, its recently announced Googlebooks, and much more.
Qualcomm also talked about the upcoming smart glasses from Google and Samsung, which partnered with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, but didn’t really give us any new details about them. But they did emphasize that they are coming “later this year”. That’s what Samsung told us at Unpacked back in July.
This came just hours before Meta announced three new AI devices, including two AI glasses powered by Qualcomm’s chips, at Meta Connect in San Francisco.
Google and Qualcomm have been collaborating for over a decade
Google and Qualcomm have been working together for quite some time. In fact, it was mentioned today that the Nexus One was the first phone to use Qualcomm’s 1GHz processor, the Snapdragon S1.
Qualcomm also talked about how the integration of Gemini Intelligence is transforming the user experience, starting with its inclusion on Wear OS on the Pixel Watch 5 that was announced last month.
Google and Qualcomm are also working together on Android XR, which currently has only one device available, the Samsung Galaxy XR, but more are on the way. This includes the XREAL Aura, which we’ve demoed a few times this year and is expected to launch this Fall.
This cross-device vision from Google and Qualcomm aims to create a seamless fabric in which AI understands user context and intent as users move between their phone, watch, and XR devices. The future of this ecosystem includes intelligent eyewear, with Google partnering with Gentle Monster and Woolley Parker to release glasses later this year running on Snapdragon Wear One. These devices are designed to provide hands-free, heads-up assistance from Gemini, from real-time translation to navigation, allowing users to stay present while accessing powerful AI.
