Following the Galaxy A56’s comparison with the Galaxy A37, it’s time to compare it with a year older phone. In this article, we’ll be comparing the Samsung Galaxy A57 vs Samsung Galaxy A36. The Galaxy A57 arrived in March this year, while the Galaxy A36 was announced in March last year. Design-wise, these two smartphones do look very similar, not identical, but similar. There are some differences, and differences on the inside too.
As we usually do, we will first compare the specs of both phones. Following that, we’ll compare their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras and audio output. Do note that the Galaxy A36 is a notably more affordable smartphone than the Galaxy A57. Both are budget phones, though.

Samsung Galaxy A57 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Design
These two smartphones do have very similar designs. When you look at them from the front, the only difference you’ll notice is bezel thickness. Even that represents a minimal difference, though. The bezels on the Galaxy A57 are thinner than the ones on the Galaxy A36, by a small margin, though. Both phones have a centered display camera hole up top, and the corners are curved to the same degree on both phones.
You’ll notice that both of them have physical buttons on the right-hand side. The power/lock key sits below the volume up and down keys. The frame is flat on both smartphones, all around. Both smartphones have glass on the back, but their frames are not made from the same material. The Galaxy A57’s frame is made out of aluminum, while the Galaxy A36 uses plastic for its frame.
When we flip them around, you’ll notice a flat backplate. In the top-left corner, both phones have a pill-shaped camera island, which protrudes on the back. There are three cameras inside each of those camera islands, and they’re vertically aligned. The Galaxy A57 is IP68 certified, while the Galaxy A36 is IP67 certified. The Galaxy A36 is the heavier of the two, by 16 grams. It’s also a bit taller, wider, and thicker in comparison, but only barely.
Samsung Galaxy A57 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Display
The Samsung Galaxy A57 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ display. That panel is flat, and it supports a 120Hz refresh rate. HDR10+ content is supported here, while the peak brightness is 1,900 nits. The resolution here is 2340 x 1080 pixels, while the screen-to-body ratio is around 89%. The display aspect ratio is 19.5:9, while the Gorilla Glass Victus+ from Corning protects this display.

The Galaxy A36, on the other hand, has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel. That display also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. Its brightness goes up to 1,900 nits, while the phone has a screen-to-body ratio of around 87%. The resolution here is 2340 x 1080 pixels, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The Gorilla Glass Victus+ from Corning protects this display.
Both of these displays are quite good. They do offer similar performance, actually. They are both sharp enough, while they’re also vivid and have good viewing angles. They’re not the brightest panels out there, but they’re generally bright enough; just manage your expectations – these are not flagship panels. For the asking price, however, they’re solid displays.
Samsung Galaxy A57 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Performance
The Samsung Galaxy A57 is fueled by the Samsung Exynos 1680 processor. That is a 4nm chip from Samsung, and it’s backed by 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, depending on the model you get. UFS 3.1 flash storage is supported here, but keep in mind that it is not expandable, so be careful when choosing the storage option.
The Samsung Galaxy A36, on the flip side, is fueled by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, which is also a 4nm processor. That chip is backed by 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM, though the availability may vary from one market to the next, of course. Samsung uses UFS 2.2 flash storage here, and the storage is not expandable.
Both phones include more budget-oriented processors, but the Galaxy A57 does come with faster RAM and storage. You can see a difference in performance when using them side by side. You quickly realize that the Galaxy A57 is the snappier of the two, even though it’s not flagship-grade in terms of performance, not at all. That phone can also handle games better, though neither device is made for gaming.
Samsung Galaxy A57 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Battery
You’ll find the same battery inside these two smartphones. Samsung opted to use a 5,000mAh unit inside both of them. It is not a silicon-carbon battery or anything like that, which is why it’s not notably higher in terms of capacity. With that in mind, the battery life these two phones are offering is not bad, but it’s not exactly great either.
The Galaxy A57 does offer better battery life of the two. We were able to get around an hour of extra screen-on-time in comparison. As already mentioned, though, the battery life in general is not great. Most people will find it to be enough, but if you’re a power user, chances are neither phone will last a day. The Galaxy A36 battery life, especially, is not exactly impressive, compared to many competitors out there.
Both devices support the same charging speed: 45W charging is supported. Wireless charging is not supported. Both devices can be fully charged in around an hour and 10-15 minutes. Do note that neither comes with a charger, though, so you’ll need to get one separately… if you don’t already own it.
Samsung Galaxy A57 vs Samsung Galaxy A36: Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy A57 includes three cameras on its back. There is a 50-megapixel main camera back there, with an f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch sensor size. That camera also supports PDAF and OIS. A 12-megapixel ultrawide unit is also included, with an f/2.2 aperture and a 1/3.06-inch sensor size. The third camera is a 5-megapixel macro unit with an f/2.4 aperture.

The Galaxy A36, on the other hand, also has three cameras on the back. Its main camera is a 50-megapixel unit with an f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.96-inch sensor size. PDAF and OIS are supported here. There is also an 8-megapixel ultrawide unit with an f/2.2 aperture, a 1/4.0-inch sensor size, and a 123-degree FoV. The third camera is the same macro shooter as on the Galaxy A57.
The Galaxy A57 can generally provide better photos. They usually have a bit more detail and better dynamic range. The difference between the two setups is more obvious in low light, though. The Galaxy A36 doesn’t do a bad job, but it cannot compete with the Galaxy A57. Needless to say, there are many better camera smartphones available out there.
Audio
Both of these smartphones include stereo speakers. They’re actually loud enough on both devices and on the same level in that regard. The sound output quality is not bad either, actually.
There is no audio jack on either phone. You can connect your headphones via their Type-C ports, though. If you prefer wireless audio connectivity, Bluetooth 6.0 is available on the Galaxy A57, while the Galaxy A36 supports Bluetooth 5.4.
