Onyx Partners Ltd., a locally based commercial real estate investment and development firm, has acquired the former You-Do-It Electronics Center building at 40 Franklin St. in Needham, MA for an undisclosed sum. The firm has commenced redevelopment of the building into its new headquarters.
Founded in 1949 by John Ahigian as a TV and radio repair shop in Boston’s South End, You-Do-It relocated to its purpose-built Needham home on Franklin Street in 1965, as the Route 128 corridor was emerging as the nation’s first high-tech hub. After 75 years in business, the store closed its doors in 2024.
Onyx Partners’ plans call for a modernization of the interior and exterior, restoring the structure’s mid-century bones, upgrading the building’s systems and finishes to institutional-quality office standards and reimagining the property as a modern workplace. The team intends to preserve the familiar You-Do-It Electronics billboard.
“Our commitment is to breathe new life into this site for the next 50-plus years while preserving the history that You-Do-It brought to Needham and the Route 128 corridor,” said Anton Melchionda, Onyx founding partner.
