Back in the day, a lot of earphones launched with relatively tiny drivers, around 6mm to 8mm. So when companies like Master & Dynamic launched earbuds with 10mm drivers, it was quite a game changer. That has become more or less the standard these days, but it’s nice to see the new OnePlus Nord Buds 4 launch with 12mm drivers.
OnePlus Nord Buds 4 launched
OnePlus has officially unveiled its latest earbuds in its Nord series. This comes in the form of the OnePlus Nord Buds 4. These are a pair of pretty inexpensive earbuds, but they pack pretty decent specs for its price. For starters, like we said earlier, one of the selling points are its 12mm drivers.
While 10mm and 12mm drivers are commonplace these days, it’s good to see the tech has trickled down to lower-end devices, not just reserved for more premium offerings. However, we should note that driver size does not necessarily dictate audio quality. There are other factors that affect it as well. This includes tuning, enclosure design, and venting, for example.
However, the larger driver does mean there’s better bass potential. But whether or not it actually delivers remains to be seen as we didn’t get a chance to try it out for ourselves.Â
Other features include ANC, support for AAC and SBC codecs, Bluetooth 6.1, OnePlus 3D Spatial Audio, Game Sound Spatial Audio, Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair, AI Translation, and AI Assistant integration.
Unfortunately, unlike the Pro version, there is no support for the LHDC 5.0 codec or volume swipe controls. The earbuds also come with an IP55 rating, perfect for gym. It also boasts up to 13 hours of playback and up to 54 hours with the charging case.
Pricing and availability
If you’re keen on getting the OnePlus Nord Buds 4, they’re priced at around $37. They are expected to go on sale in India come July 1. There was no mention of whether we will see it launch in the US or other markets. However, based on past launches, there is a good chance this model might be restricted to Asian markets. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see and hope OnePlus has a change of heart.
