If you’ve walked into a Best Buy recently looking to get some hands-on time with the latest OnePlus 15, you might have walked away disappointed. Reports from across the United States claim that OnePlus demo units are disappearing from Best Buy retail stores. In many cases, the empty space is being filled by a familiar newcomer: Nothing.
OnePlus demo phone units being removed from physical Best Buy stores in the US
The shift was first highlighted by users on Reddit and later corroborated by Android Authority. The AA team staff visited local stores only to find empty shelves where OnePlus hardware used to sit. While the phones are still technically for sale on Best Buy’s website and available for in-store pickup, the physical demo units have disappeared.
This isn’t just a matter of moving boxes. For a brand that doesn’t have the massive marketing reach of Apple or Samsung, the “touch and feel” factor is everything. A shopper who can play with the screen and test the camera is a lot more likely to take a chance on a less-familiar brand. Without that physical presence, OnePlus effectively becomes an “online-only” option for many casual buyers.

Signs of a broader shift
This retail pullback doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It follows a period of significant executive turnover in India and layoffs in Europe. More importantly, it comes on the heels of a recent statement where OnePlus admitted it is “evaluating its regional roadmap and product strategy” in North America.
‘The company insists that after-sales support and software updates are guaranteed. However, they have been noticeably quiet about their future retail footprint. Recent reports claimed that OnePlus is merging its key departments with Realme.
Interestingly, the few demo units that were still on the floor recently seemed to be neglected. Shoppers reported seeing unpowered devices and spec cards that omitted key features like battery capacity. This lack of maintenance often signals a brand that is already halfway out the door.
The “Nothing” factor
The fact that Nothing phones are taking over the vacated shelf space adds an interesting layer to the story. Nothing has been aggressively building its US presence, just as OnePlus appears to be receding. Whether this is a coordinated move within the wider industry or simply Best Buy filling gaps with a more active partner remains to be seen.
For now, OnePlus fans don’t need to panic about their current devices. However, the brand’s future as a retail heavyweight in the US is looking increasingly uncertain. If you want to see a OnePlus phone in person before buying, your window of opportunity at local retailers might have already closed.
