Another major Android brand is breaking down the mobile wall for seamless file sharing. The OnePlus 15 is actively picking up native support for Apple’s AirDrop protocol directly through its integrated Quick Share menu. This essentially means that sending a high-resolution video or a batch of vacation photos between your Android flagship and an iPhone no longer requires clunky cloud links or third-party messaging workarounds.
The underlying file-sharing breakthrough originally dates back to a surprise move by Google. Last year, the company managed to engineer direct platform-to-platform communication utilizing native device protocols. The functionality initially remained exclusive to Google’s own Pixel hardware lineup. However, lately it has been expanding to more and more devices and brands. Major heavyweights like Samsung’s latest premium smartphones have already integrated the capability. Now, OnePlus is officially joining the cross-platform party.
How the ecosystem bridge works in your hands
According to user reports (spotted by Android Authority), the rollout is currently hitting active handsets. Unlike usual software updates, this one is deploying largely as a quiet, server-side activation.
Operating the feature is remarkably straightforward. To initiate a cross-platform transfer, both the OnePlus 15 and the receiving iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer simply need to have their local visibility settings toggled to “Everyone.” Once active, the neighboring Apple device pops up directly inside the native Android Quick Share menu just like any other nearby device. From there, wireless data transfers occur instantly via a localized connection without losing media quality or compressing metadata.
A strategic win for North American users
Other regional flagship models under parent brands like OPPO and Vivo have also started picking up similar integration patterns. However, the inclusion of the popular OnePlus 15 is particularly notable for buyers in the United States. OnePlus maintains a distinct competitive footprint in Western markets, where the iPhone’s cultural dominance makes AirDrop proximity a near-necessity for casual daily communication.
There is, however, a slight catch for brand loyalists holding onto legacy hardware. For the time being, the ongoing capability rollout seems rigidly confined to the current-generation OnePlus 15. The manufacturer has not provided any hints suggesting that previous-generation models will receive the underlying firmware tweaks required to handle Apple’s specific wireless linking system. For current flagship owners, though, keeping the local Quick Share utility fully updated via the Google Play Store is the only step required.
