Samsung’s One UI skin has everything that one could ask for, be it AI features, customization options, or handy utility tools. However, for some reason, the company hasn’t made efforts to bring this simple feature. We’re talking about the Network speed in the status bar, which is now finally being added to its phones with One UI 9. It has been one of the most-requested features, apparently.
One UI 9 finally adds a network speed indicator to the status bar via QuickStar
Though it’s here, it’s not quite in a way that many would think. Samsung has updated the QuickStar Good Lock module in One UI 9, and it adds the option to enable the network speed indicator. This is present inside the Indicators Icons menu. The change was spotted by folks at SammyGuru. As you’d expect, once it’s on, your Galaxy phone will now finally display your internet speed in the status bar.
It’s surprising that Samsung took so long to bring this feature. Most Android phones have it right out of the box. Though it’s not a built-in One UI 9 feature, it at least offers a solution for those who want it. But then they’ll have to go the extra mile and install the module to enable it.

Besides this, there’s also a new “Ongoing Chip” option in the module that wasn’t there before. This toggle reportedly controls the Now Bar, which shows live activities for timers, incoming and outgoing calls, voice recordings, and more. You can disable it if you prefer not to have these features. These changes are available only on One UI 9, which is based on Android 17.
As for One UI 9 progress, Samsung has rolled out a couple of beta updates to the Galaxy S26 series. It might expand it to older Galaxy flagships soon. Recent reports suggest that the South Korean tech giant is already testing One UI 9 on mid-range Galaxy A-series devices, the Galaxy A57, A34, and A17 5G. So the company is clearly not wasting time here.
