After rolling out in South Korea, Samsung is now expanding the One UI 8.5 update to the Galaxy S23 series in more regions. The stable version, based on Android 16 QPR2, is now available for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra in the US, Europe, and India. It should be a matter of time before it expands to the rest of the regions.

The One UI 8.5 update weighs around 4GB in size for non-beta users and around 300MB for those on beta. The firmware versions and download size may vary by model and region. Since it’s a major update, ensure that your phone’s battery has at least 30% charging and also connect to a stable Wi-Fi network.
If you are rocking any of the Galaxy S23 phones, you can check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software update and tapping Download and Install. If the update is available, it should automatically start downloading. Once that’s done, tap Install now to begin the installation process.
Besides the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung is also reportedly rolling out the One UI 8.5 update to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 in the US. The updates to the former carry the firmware F946USQU7GZE3, while for the latter, it is F731USQU7GZE4. This comes after the initial release in South Korea.
New features and more customization
One UI 8.5 is a major upgrade despite being based on Android 16 QPR2. It brings a lot of new features, updates to stock One UI apps, home screen and lock screen customizations, and an upgraded Bixby experience, which can now understand natural language. Bixby also gets Perplexity integration that can bring you relevant information from the web. It introduces partial screen recording, where you can select the exact area you want to capture.
The update brings continuous image generation in the Galaxy AI-powered Photo Assist image editor. There are three new portrait filters for the camera. It brings weather background effects for the alarm screen and a timezone converter in the Clock app. There are new animated wallpapers and more lock screen clock widget font styling options. Quick Panel is now more customizable, where you can add/remove any shortcut and resize toggles.
Rest, there are some handy features like Storage Share, Auto Hotspot, shortcuts for favorite Smart View devices, and more.
