One Of Just 80 Guards Red Porsche Carrera GTs May Fetch $3 Million

The Golden Age

Most automotive enthusiasts agree that the best era for supercars was the early 2000s; this is where almost all of the modern classics we lust over today were made. In that specific time period alone, we saw the likes of the Ferrari Enzo, Lamborghini Murciélago, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, and the “creme de la creme” (in my opinion), the Porsche Carrera GT.

The Carrera GT isn’t the rarest of that bunch, but depending on the color it came off the factory in, it could be rarer than most think. One example is now up for auction and is expected to fetch at least $3 million.

Guards Red Carrera GT

Now listed on the renowned auction platform RM Sotheby’s is a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT finished from the factory in a shade called Guards Red. According to the listing, only 80 Carrera GT’s were ever spec’d in this color, making it the rarest color offered. Quick maths will show that Guards Red cars account for only 6% of the total production run of 1,270 Carrera GTs.

This particular car has been in Germany its whole life, changing hands four times, with the latest owner having had it for 15 years, adding only 600 miles to the total of just 12,700 miles since new. Just this past May, the car was inspected by respected Carrera GT specialist Jochen Bader, who confirmed in his report that it retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and steering rack. Most importantly, Bader also claims the car still has its original paint, with no indication of having been in any accident.

Le Mans Heritage

Part of the records that come with the car is the comprehensive service history from Porsche Zentrum Stuttgart, where it has been serviced ever since. The last noted service was in 2025; it is currently scheduled to undergo a clutch wear measurement procedure, which will be added to the compilation of service documents later on.

What makes the Porsche Carrera GT such a standout is that its development came from an abandoned 1990s Porsche Le Mans prototype program. Instead, having decided to use it as a base for a raw, driver-focused supercar, the Carrera GT is known for its stunning looks, the unique howl of its naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V10 producing 612 horsepower, and razor-sharp handling.
