GTA 6 is due out on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and gamers have wondered about the possibility of the game arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2. Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar have been very clear about their intentions to focus on consoles for GTA 6, because that’s where most of its player base is. And while there hasn’t be a concrete date for the PC release, GTA V came out on PC eventually, so GTA 6 is expected to do the same in due time.
What about Nintendo Switch 2, though? The Nintendo Switch 2 is a console, and after all, it has received releases for many high-profile games that the original Switch could only dream of having. For example, Modern Warfare 4 is coming to Switch 2 on October 23. Cyberpunk 2077 came out on Switch 2 earlier this year. Stellar Blade releases on November 5. And next year, the third game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will be hitting Switch 2 as well. One might think this makes the Switch 2 capable of handling GTA 6. But some on Reddit aren’t necessarily convinced. Questioning whether the console’s CPU and GPU would be able to handle the technical difficulties the game presents.
Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t currently getting a GTA 6 release
In an interview this week, Nintendo of America President Devon Pritchard spoke to Variety about her first year in the new role as President of Nintendo’s American division. This included a lot more questions about topics other than GTA 6, but Pritchard was asked directly about whether or not the handheld console/home console hybrid would be getting a GTA 6 release at some point.
Pritchard didn’t say yes or no. Instead, she simply said that GTA 6 on Switch 2 would be a matter for Take-Two and Rockstar, following up by saying “she has nothing to report at this time. “That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time,” Pritchard said.
