The recipe is (surprisingly) straightforward. Take a Subaru Impreza. Discard the humdrum Impreza body, and replace it with a lightweight, fiber-reinforced plastic monocoque tub, along with a space-frame front-end that houses a Subaru flat-four engine, producing in the region of 400 horsepower.
