Back when Windows 11 26H2 started rolling out to users, reports began emerging of that more than a few were suffering from game crashes where the game they were currently playing would crash for a variety of different reasons, and at the time there was no fix for the issue that players were experiencing. More reports about the issue started surfacing around October 5. These crashes were also affecting apps and not just games.
At the time there was no given date information on when to expect a fix, but Microsoft did acknowledge the bug and did say it would be working to fix the problems people were experiencing with the next software update it was planning to push out. All there was left for users to do was wait it out. There were workarounds, but one of those was simply “reinstalling Windows fresh,” which isn’t exactly what many want to do given that it requires you wipe your entire drive in the process. And not everyone has the capability to clone their drives for simpler swapping. That shouldn’t be necessary anymore.
Microsoft has pushed an update to Windows 11 26H2 to fix game and app crashes
For users that were running into game and app crashes with the optional software update, there’s a solution. Microsoft said it would be pushing out an update that would fix the crashing problems, and it has reportedly done so. As noted by Bleeping Computer, Microsoft has pushed the ‘KB5127648 October 2026 Patch Tuesday update’ and it contains a resolution for this problem.
Microsoft’s patch notes page says this issue was fixed on October 13, but it isn’t clear if the update was actually available to users on that same day. However, it is available now, and Microsoft is recommending that anyone who can install it, do so as it resolves the crashing.
