The most powerful four-cylinder powertrain on the market today can be found in the Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance. On its own, the turbocharged M139 four-cylinder makes 469 horsepower, that’s almost as much (94%) as the Coyote V8 in the Ford Mustang, but from just 40 percent of the displacement. It’s a similar story against the Corvette Stingray’s LT2 V8: the AMG four’s 469 horsepower packs about 95% of the Stingray’s 495‑horsepower output, from barely a third of the liters.
