LG’s unreleased rollable smartphone, the so-called LG Rollable, keeps popping up despite being cancelled years ago. Zack from JerryRigEverything disassembled the phone recently, and now MKBHD managed to get his hands on it.
The LG Rollable has just popped up again, this time thanks to MKBHD
MKBHD, aka Marques Brownlee, shared a new 10-minute YouTube video showing the LG Rollable. The video itself is embedded below, and it will give you a great look at the phone and its software.
This phone was cancelled about 5 years ago, despite being ready to be released, it seems. Why? Well, LG has decided to ditch the smartphone business altogether after years of failed attempts to improve sales.
That’s a shame, as the company had plenty of interesting devices over the years, including the LG G5, LG Velvet, LG Wing, and much more. The LG Rollable was the peak of the company’s design, and LG made a lot of people sad by not releasing it.
It has been around five years since it was cancelled, and to this day, we did not get a rollable from any brand. We’ve seen patents and concepts, but not an actual device that is available in the market.
Its display extends past the 7-inch point
The LG Rollable comes with a 6.7-inch display, and its display can be expanded to 7.4 inches. The display expands horizontally, as you’ll see in the provided video. Zack actually explained the mechanism really well in his disassembly video. You can expand it by swiping horizontally across the display with three fingers.
Marques also shows various phones with compelling designs in this video, including some from LG. It remains to be seen if we’ll see a rollable phone in the market at all, as we’ve started losing hope at this point. A long time has passed since they were hyped for market releases.
