Lexus May Update The NX Even Though Buyers Are Still Waiting For One

The current-generation Lexus NX has been around in its latest form since 2022. This means the model is at the right stage in its cycle to receive a mid-cycle refresh.

Some models need to refresh to revive interest in a struggling model or to keep interest alive amid newer competition. The NX is in neither situation, experiencing high demand in Japan, yet Lexus feels an update might be in order.

Age Defying

Since the introduction of the Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, NX orders have surged. In fact, according to Kuruma News, despite being on sale in Japan for around four years already, the wait list is still around 3 months for a brand-new NX. Given its popularity and status within the Lexus brand, it’s no surprise that there are rumors of a minor update coming the NX’s way.

The report continues to speculate that while no official word has been given by Lexus, most say the update is coming soon. It will feature a redesign incorporating the brand’s patented Spindle Body design, which is an improved version of the current Spindle Grille implementation seen in the NX. It is said that the new design will make the NX look more dynamic and modern.

Some of the other likely updates the NX will receive include an improved, redesigned interior and a rumored inclusion of the Alleen Operating System already in place in the ES sedan. Next up is an improved version of the ADAS systems, specifically the Lexus Safety System+, which will be updated.

Kuruma News goes deeper into speculation about the specific changes we’ll likely see in the updated NX. One aspect is that the new Spindle Body design will likely integrate the polarizing grille more into the body’s shape, creating a more fluid design language overall.

There is also a high chance that the NX powertrain lineup will be streamlined, with some options being killed off. At the moment, there are six engine options in Japan, which seems a bit excessive and a strain on production lines. No date has been given yet, but there are already some spy shots of the alleged facelift model.
