It has been rumored for a while that Apple is working on a new MacBook Pro with a touchscreen display. Now, according to a recent post on Weibo by tipster Instant Digital, the touchscreen MacBook is “confirmed.”

That being said, we should advise you to take this with a grain of salt. Instant Digital has a decent track record, but declaring the device as “100% confirmed” is kind of bold. However, like we said, the device has been rumored before. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also said as much, so if anything, at least the rumors corroborate each other.
But the question is, when will it arrive? That answer is a little tricky. According to some reports, it has been suggested that Apple might launch it in 2027. However, there are more recent reports that claim that it could launch by the end of the year. Apple does host events after the iPhone that refresh its tablets and computers, so it is possible.
Either way, don’t get your hopes up just yet. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement first.
What can we expect from it?
In terms of specs and features, we’re hearing that it could be powered by the Apple M6 chipset. Also, in addition to touchscreen support, the laptop is rumored to use an OLED panel. This is a first as far as Apple’s MacBook laptops are concerned. But this could also mean that these devices could see a jump in price.
Plus, Apple might market it as a new lineup alongside the MacBook Neo, Air, and Pro models. Last we heard, Apple could designate it as the MacBook Ultra.
Apple has famously avoided creating touchscreen Mac computers in the past and has publicly dismissed the idea. But for some reason, the company has come back around to it. According to the rumors, macOS could ship with special menus and features that only appear when the touchscreen is being used.
This means that users will see menus and UIs that are more touch-friendly, rather than users trying to jab their fingers at tiny buttons designed for the mouse. Either way, it could go really well or really bad. Apple did attempt to integrate touch functionality with the MacBook Pro via Touch Bar, and look how that turned out.
