The Microsoft Surface Laptop 8 is one of the company’s upcoming new laptops, and the full specs for it have now been leaked, showcasing just how different it’ll be from the top-tier option. Earlier this week during Computex, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra. A new ultra-premium Windows laptop that’ll be powered by NVIDIA’s RTX Spark SoC. It’s custom-tailored to work with a variety of AI agents and can come with up to 128GB of RAM.
It also has around the same CUDA core count as a desktop version of the RTX 5070 GPU. So, quite a bit. By comparison, the Surface Laptop 8 will be a much different beast. Running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite chip, it’ll likely be very power-efficient. To be specific, the Surface Laptop 8 will offer up to 20 hours of battery life on a full charge, according to the leaked full specs. It’s worth noting that this is for the 13.8-inch model. The 15-inch model is said to deliver up to 19 hours.

When it comes to rumored official specs for this new laptop, there are a lot of nifty-looking options, not the least of which is the user-replaceable storage. This is a huge step toward better support for consumers and their right to repair products. Because it means you might be able to get one of the lower storage models, and simply replace the storage with a higher capacity option should you have it on hand. In addition to the user-replaceable storage, the leak also mentions the color options, RAM capacity, and even the launch date.
The Surface Laptop 8 will reportedly launch on June 16, 2026, which means it’s only a couple of weeks away. It’ll launch in Platinum, Gold/Dune, Black, and Jade. As for RAM, it comes with up to 32GB of RAM, and can have as little as 512GB of storage, or up to 2TB. Obviously, a less powerful option than the Ultra model, and likely a significantly lower baseline price tag.
