Jeep Recon Gets More Power but Loses 20 Miles of Range

Stellantis has been lucky as of late in terms of having sales surge in a very volatile year, where most of its usually more sellable competitors have fallen. In the first half of the year, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, and even Fiat have registered positive growth percentages sales-wise.

Jeep’s success has been down to the Grand Wagoneer; however, the brand has geared up to roll out its first full EV off-roader, the Recon. This is one of the most ambitious projects in the automotive industry right now, but Jeep is going full steam ahead and has even changed up some of the declared specs already.

RECON-sideration

When the Jeep Recon EV was first launched to the public a few months ago, the originally listed power output was 650 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. These figures are already considered ample for what will mostly be used as a trail vehicle, but it seems Jeep either underdeclared the original output or tweaked the power already.

It has just come to light that the new official horsepower rating of the Recon is 670 hp, which is a 20 hp bump-up from the original announcement. All in all, with that much power on tap, the Recon can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, a rapid time for an off-roader, and has a top speed of 112 mph.

It isn’t just a power tweak; it seems that the added oomph has somewhat diminished the Recon’s overall range when fully charged. At first, the Recon was listed with 250 miles, but now it loses 20 miles (230), while the Moab variant only gets 222 miles. Interestingly, the longest range in the Recon lineup belongs to the Overland trim with a total of 240 miles.

Is the Price Right?

The Jeep Recon’s configurator has already been launched, allowing customers to build their own car. We’ve done our part by playing around with it, and our fully loaded Recon came out to a staggering $78,125 dollars. It seems that the high price is already scaring some dealers into thinking it might be best to lower the price, according to a report by Carscoops.

In the report, it’s detailed how some Jeep dealerships are offering the Recon at discounted prices. Three examples were listed: a dealer in Columbus is offering $720 off the Moab trim, and two dealers in California are offering $500 off the Recon.
