Power outages are becoming more common, and home backup batteries are a popular alternative to gas generators. But installing one properly is a lot harder than plugging in a portable power station. Jackery wants to fix that with a new partnership, making its home backup systems a more realistic option for anyone building out a smart home that can’t afford to go dark.
Jackery is teaming up with Qmerit, North America’s largest network of certified electrical contractors. The partnership connects Jackery customers with more than 15,000 background-checked, licensed, and insured electricians across all 50 states.
Installation is often the hardest part of setting up home backup power. Connecting a transfer switch to your breaker panel means dealing with local building codes, pulling permits, and finding a qualified electrician. Jackery and Qmerit now handle all of that together.
How the installation process works
If you buy an eligible Jackery system with a transfer switch, you can start the installation process with Qmerit directly through Jackery. After requesting a quote, you complete a short online evaluation of your home’s electrical setup and upload photos of your breaker panel. Qmerit then matches you with a local electrician who reviews the job, secures permits, completes the installation, and processes payment.
Jackery says you’ll get an upfront, transparent quote, which matters for something this expensive. Surprise costs are one of the biggest headaches with home electrical work.
The partnership launches first with the Jackery Explorer 5000 Plus and HomePower 3600 Plus. Both use LiFePO4 batteries, known for long life, and support 120V/240V split-phase power. That means they can run heavy-duty appliances like HVAC systems, well pumps, and refrigerators. Depending on the setup, Jackery’s HomePower Series scales from 3.5kWh up to 60kWh of capacity, with 3,600 W to 14,400 W of continuous output. The systems can also switch over in 10ms or less when the power goes out.
Unlike gas generators, these systems are quiet, produce no emissions, and are safe for indoor use. They can recharge from solar or the grid and even help lower your utility bills by using stored energy during peak hours.
In Michigan, winter storms and power outages go hand in hand, so I’d want this set up before the first big snowfall. Being able to buy the system and book a certified electrician in one place takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.
If you’re not ready for a full home backup system, Jackery’s portable power stations regularly go on sale, especially around events like Black Friday. Keep an eye on our deals page for the best prices.
