According to a report from 9to5Mac, they cite a research note from analyst Jeff Pu who believes the availability of the iPhone Duo could be extremely limited at launch. Pu believes due to the hinge design of the iPhone Duo, Apple might have a harder time manufacturing at scale..
The analyst had previously predicted that Apple could ship 7 million units by the end of 2026. However, he has since revised his estimates, dropping it down to 6 million. Now, that difference might not seem like much, but when you compare it to the regular iPhones, it’s more obvious.
For context, it is expected Apple will ship as many as 20-22 million units of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in 2026. That’s more than three times what it expects to ship of the iPhone Duo. And we’re already seeing pre-order shipping dates slip. This means that it could be worse for the iPhone Duo.
This means that if you are planning to buy one, you’ll have to move fast. Otherwise, you could end up waiting weeks, if not months, for your order to arrive.
Apple’s optimism
That being said, Apple is optimistic about the iPhone Duo’s sales. Based on earlier reports, Apple is said to be planning to produce as many as 10 million iPhone Duo units. That’s quite a big number for a first device from Apple. It also eclipses the 1 million or so units of the first-ever Samsung Galaxy Fold that were sold and produced.
This suggests that despite the hefty price tag, Apple is convinced customers will flock to the device. To be honest, after watching Apple’s event and seeing reactions on social media and YouTube, Apple could be onto something. The company might have been late to the foldables scene, but all this hype and positive reactions suggest that they could catch up. And catch up fast.
