The Apple iPhone Duo reviews started popping up yesterday, and it seems like the phone could have a rather nasty issue with the main display. Well, at least according to Kang, a Weibo user who spent some time with the phone.
The iPhone Duo’s display is squishy in a certain area, and that could be a problem
He created a short video that shows the issue, and Ice Universe, a well-known tipster, shared it via X. The video itself is embedded below, and it shows that the screen around the crease is very soft to the touch.
When pressed with a finger, the surface can develop visible wrinkles. What’s interesting is that I haven’t spotted that in a single iPhone Duo review thus far, and neither has the tipster. The source actually claims this is common for the phone, as he spotted it on multiple units.
Apple’s rumored variable thickness UTG could be the cause of this
The tipster suspects this could be related to Apple’s rumored variable thickness UTG, with a thinner central folding region and thicker surrounding areas. Why would Apple do this? Well, to better manage the stress around the folding area.
It will be interesting to see if more users end up reporting this, and more importantly, how it will affect the crease and the display over time. It doesn’t look great on the video, that’s for sure.
As a reminder, pre-orders for the iPhone Duo started on October 16, last Friday. General availability will kick off tomorrow, when the phone will go on sale. It was originally announced last month, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The iPhone Duo is the company’s first foldable phone, and it’s a wide foldable. Its pricing starts at $1,999 in the US, and it’s more expensive elsewhere. So it’s also the most expensive iPhone to date.
