When Apple announced its new iPhones, the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and the Duo, the company revealed that all three phones would be powered by its new 2nm A20 Pro chip. So by right, they should all perform the same, right? Unsurprisingly, that turned out to be the case as the iPhone Duo got benchmarked ahead of its release.
iPhone Duo benchmarked ahead of release
According to the benchmarks on Geekbench 7, the iPhone Duo scored 3,986 for single-core performance and 11,067 for multi-core performance. For context, that’s more or less the same as what the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models scored. Like we said, this shouldn’t be too surprising, but there are some things you should take into consideration.
In theory, phones running the same chip with the same architecture and clock speeds should yield near-identical benchmark scores. However, there are other factors to consider, such as thermals. Since benchmarks are designed to push phones to their limits, thermals will definitely have an effect on the score.
In the case of the iPhone Duo, it’s actually good to see that it scores more or less the same as the iPhone 18 Pro models. Obviously due to the different design, Apple had to come up with a different cooling system. In fact, early hands-on with the phone raised some concerns about its thermal management.
However, if these benchmark scores are anything to go by, maybe we shouldn’t be too worried.
Pre-orders open today
In any case, if you’re thinking of picking up the iPhone Duo, pre-orders are opening today. The phone is priced starting at $1,999 and we should remind you that there have been many reports suggesting that it could be short in supply. This is due to the complexities of manufacturing the phone.
So if you want to be among the first to own it, you’ll have to move quickly. You also should consider grabbing AppleCare+ with the phone. Apple recently revealed the out-of-warranty repair prices and they’re not cheap. So subscribing to AppleCare+ could actually prove to be cheaper in the long run.
