For the most part, Apple isn’t changing the design of the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max compared to its predecessor. However, this doesn’t mean there aren’t any changes. In a video by Max Tech, they claim to have gotten their hands on the dummy unit of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and it looks like there are some changes.
iPhone 18 Pro Max dummy unit reveals small changes
According to the video, on the surface it looks like the iPhone 18 Pro Max looks like the iPhone 17 Pro Max. In fact, the dummy unit they had managed to fit in existing iPhone 17 Pro Max cases. However, this depends on the case because like we said, there are some minor changes in the design.
On the surface, it looks like its predecessor. But according to Max Tech, Apple has increased the size of the camera lenses. The diameter seems to have increased from 16.15mm to 16.5mm. Also, the overall thickness of the iPhone 18 Pro Max has increased slightly, going from 13.13m from the iPhone 17 Pro Max to 13.78mm.Â
It’s not exactly a massive increase, especially since it can still fit existing cases. But like we said, this depends on the case. Cases with tighter tolerances might have trouble slotting in the phone, so your mileage may vary.Â
But that’s not all
However, we suppose the biggest change in design isn’t in the dimensions. Assuming these dummy units of the iPhone 18 Pro Max are accurate, Apple is shrinking Dynamic Island on the phone. Comparing it against the iPhone 17 Pro Max dummy units, it is estimated that the new Dynamic Island is now 25% smaller. It measures 14.98mm wide versus 20.06mm on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
This seems to line up with a previous report that suggested the phone will come with a smaller Dynamic Island. However, it’s worth noting that there have been some conflicting rumors. There was a report back in March that said nothing will change. There were also rumors about Apple adopting an under-display Face ID.
In any case, take these leaks with a grain of salt for now. The new iPhone 18 models are expected to debut this September. It will launch alongside the iPhone Ultra, Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
