Apple recently increased the price across quite a number of its products. The iPhones, thankfully, were untouched. Unfortunately, we’re not sure if we can say the same for the upcoming iPhone 18 series. Especially with reports that the iPhone 18 Pro Max component costs could jump by as much as $300.
iPhone 18 Pro Max component costs could go up
According to a report from Counterpoint Research, they expect the iPhone 18 Pro Max component costs to rise by nearly $300 compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. As you can see in the infographic below, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is seeing an increase in costs in the processor, RAM, and storage. Other components like its display and camera appear to stay largely the same.

This doesn’t come as a surprise. The ongoing memory crisis means that the cost of DRAM and NAND storage have gone through the roof, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max isn’t spared. As for the processor, we’ve been hearing reports that TSMC is charging its customers more to use its more advanced 2nm process, so that tracks as well.
Will Apple absorb the costs?
Unfortunately, it looks like Apple might not be willing to absorb the costs. The report also goes on to suggest that Apple could raise its retail prices by an average of $200. Ultimately, this means that Apple could pull smaller margins compared to last year’s iPhone. However, we imagine that this increase in price might not sit well with customers either. This could result in customers opting to sit this upgrade out, which means even smaller profits for Apple.
We have heard earlier rumors that Apple could absorb some of the costs. However, that is only for the standard model. Presumably this is because Apple still wants a relatively affordable iPhone to lock customers into its ecosystem. But for those who want the best iPhone experience possible, prepare to pay for it.
Apple is currently expected to host an event this September. The event will see the company announce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Ultra. The company’s base iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e, and the iPhone Air 2 are rumored for an early 2027 launch instead.
