When Apple announced its latest iPhones, they also increased its price by $100. This can be attributed to the pricier 2nm process used by TSMC for the A20 Pro chip as well as the ongoing memory crisis. But unfortunately, the latest rumors suggest another price increase for the iPhone 18 Pro series in early 2027.
iPhone 18 Pro price increase again in 2027
According to a post on X by Raihan Han, they claim that the iPhone 18 Pro could see another price increase in early 2027. They claim that Apple has reportedly approved Samsung’s new memory prices for its Q1 2027 supply. Assuming their figures are accurate, the 12GB of RAM used in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could go up by around 33%, while the NAND storage could see an increase in price of about 27%.
However, it’s worth taking this information with a huge dose of salt. This is because we rarely see Apple, let alone other tech companies, make price adjustments in such a short span of time. An increase in price every phone generation might be expected, but two price hikes in a span of less than a year? That’s a little suspicious.
Plus, Apple isn’t new to this game. Chances are the $100 price increase has already factored in its costs for the foreseeable future. Also, Apple has more to lose than gain if they increase its prices. By absorbing some of the costs, Apple ensures it is locking customers into its ecosystem.
From there, Apple can make money off app purchases and subscriptions to other services. Plus, it might even encourage some to buy more Apple hardware to complement the iPhone. So like we said, it’s probably best to approach this rumor with a healthy amount of skepticism.
Can’t outrun the market
That being said, Apple cannot ignore or escape the increasing memory prices. That is a problem the entire industry is facing. However, Apple is hoping that at the very least, it can ease its supply chain. According to earlier reports, Apple is testing memory made by Chinese company CXMT.
Unfortunately for Apple, CXMT has reportedly refused to lower its prices. So while Apple might not have to worry about supply, they won’t be able to get it cheap. In the meantime, Washington is already pushing back on the idea of using Chinese made components.
