Apple’s iPhones haven’t exactly been known to have the best battery life. It’s not terrible by any means, but when Android handset makers are stuffing their phones with 10,000mAh batteries, iPhone batteries feel downright insignificant. However, that could change with iOS 27, which could extend battery life and also improve notifications.
iOS 27 to offer better battery life, new notifications
According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, there are several changes coming to iOS 27. The analyst claims that iOS 27 will improve battery life and introduce new notifications.
On the battery front, Gurman’s claims were a bit vague. He says the update will result in “longer battery life,” but he did not get into specifics. However, he did qualify his claims by saying that it is unclear how Apple will quantify these improvements. If you’ve watched any of Apple’s iPhone announcement videos, the company is usually quite vague when it comes to numbers. We’re hoping the changes are significant enough, but we’ll have to wait and see.
But that’s not all. Gurman’s report also claims iOS 27 will introduce notifications that will slide in from the side of the screen, instead of dropping down from the top. It is possible that this is because of the new revamped Siri.
According to previous reports, users can summon the new Siri by swiping down on the Dynamic Island area. So tapping on notifications on the side could be Apple’s way of preventing users from accidentally summoning Siri when they don’t want to.
When is iOS 27 coming?
Apple will officially announce iOS 27 later today. The unveiling will be part of Apple’s WWDC 2026 event, where we’ll probably see updates to macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and more.
As to when iOS 27 will be released, that’s anyone’s guess. But based on Apple’s past releases, we should be able to expect it around September. The company usually times its updates around the announcement and/or release of its new iPhones. WWDC 2026 will also be software focused. So don’t expect to see any new hardware announcements.
