Huawei has never really been afraid to try new things. The company was the first to launch a smartphone with a triple foldable display, and back in late 2022, it launched the Watch Buds. As the name implies, this is a smartwatch that has built-in earbuds. It was a fun idea, and it seems that Huawei is getting ready to do it again with the Watch Buds 2 coming on April 20.
Huawei Watch Buds 2 coming soon
According to a recent teaser, Huawei says that the Watch Buds 2 is coming soon. To be specific, the company says that the device will be officially unveiled on April 20. This is when the company is planning to launch its Pura series of smartphones.
Unfortunately, we don’t really know much about the smartwatch right now. Based on the teaser image, Huawei doesn’t appear to have changed much in terms of design. Even the earbuds themselves look remarkably similar to its predecessor. But we can’t really blame Huawei though.
To fit a pair of earbuds inside a smartwatch is quite a feat. If they were to redesign one component, they might have to redo the other component, and that’s a lot of work. At most, hopefully we’ll see some kind of audio or battery upgrade. That being said, we should note that at the moment, Huawei’s reach is kind of limited.
Ever since it was placed on the US Entity List, its access to the US market is nonexistent. This means that if you wanted to get your hands on it, you might have to venture outside the US for it.Â
Huawei’s innovative streak
Like we said, Huawei hasn’t really been afraid to try new things. A lot of smartphone companies tend to play it safe. They launch devices with iterative design and spec updates. Huawei, on the other hand, has been trying all sorts of things. One of those included the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, which was eventually copied by Samsung.
More recently, Huawei also beat Apple and Samsung to the punch with the Pura X Max. This is a tablet-style foldable that has a wider display. According to the rumors, Apple and Samsung are working on similar foldables, but Huawei has managed to come out with it first. It’s commendable for a company who has had their reach and customer base hobbled due to ongoing political tensions between US and China.
