Without proper fluids, the potential for your car’s major components to suffer catastrophic damage rises considerably. Engine oil is the big one, but transmission fluid isn’t far behind on the list of major maintenance items to stay on top of. Both manual and automatic transmissions require fluid to function optimally, but the nature of the fluid between the two is different. And, although automatic gearboxes are more complex, the reverse is true when it comes to checking transmission fluid; this is a more convoluted task on cars with a manual.
