Honor is the next company to take inspiration from, or downright copy the design of Apple’s Liquid Glass. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say, though Apple probably wouldn’t see this with the same outlook. Regardless, Honor is not the first brand to come up with its own Liquid Glass-like UI design, and it probably won’t be the last.
Honor is teasing the Liquid Glass design for MagicOS 11, which is based on Android 17. Google recently start pushing Android 17 officially to Pixel devices on June 16.
Honor teases Liquid Glass-like design across a series of videos
Judging from Honor’s official videos being teased and shared on its social media account on Weibo, it’s very clear that Liquid Glass was the main inspiration for this style. While it doesn’t show off all aspects of the UI it does tease a few different notable details. For example, icons and buttons appearing to refract light just like glass. While also showing some buttery smooth transitions from solid to liquid, which can be seen with the animation for an incoming call.
It’s not clear when Honor plans to push out this software update to compatible Honor phones. However, MagicOS 11 is reported to be in testing right now. If that’s the case, then chances are the update isn’t going to arrive on compatible devices for at least a little while. The update definitely seems like it’s coming at least later this Summer, though, if it’s currently being tested on devices.
Honor doesn’t show off everything by the looks of it, but it wouldn’t be surprising if more teasers make their way to social media in the coming weeks and months. MagicOS 11 also doesn’t just apply the Liquid Glass look to app icons and a few buttons. It’s quite literally present in almost every corner of the user interface.
