What sets HONOR’s Robot Phone apart is its unique gimbal arm that retracts into its rear housing when not in use. It can track subjects, respond to AI-powered gestures, and offer exceptional video stabilization. The phone will launch in Q3 2026. After showcasing at MWC earlier this year and at Cannes last month, HONOR has now showcased the video capabilities of the Robot Phone at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). It also served as the event’s official mobile photography and videography partner.
HONOR shows off cinematic video capabilities of its unique Robot Phone
HONOR released a promotional video where the Robot Phone was used by ELLEMEN to capture cinematic video portraits for the SIFF Jury members. This highlights the device’s imaging capabilities. The company claims that the “Robot Phone breaks down the boundaries between mobile imaging and professional filmmaking.”
The device apparently was able to faithfully reproduce rich tonal gradations and nuanced color transitions associated with film photography. The video is also a showcase of the “powerful” stabilization capabilities of the built-in gimbal system, which can deliver smooth handheld camera movement while preserving full image quality.
Launching in Q3 2026
HONOR says that by reducing reliance on electronic image stabilization, the Robot Phone reduces image cropping and preserves video quality. Beyond that, it’s also claimed to feature the industry’s smallest titanium alloy gimbal. This will deliver “ultra-precision, extreme flexibility, and superior stability.” Courtesy of high-performance motors, Robot Phone’s gimbal gets the ability to move beyond the limits of traditional smartphone camera modules.
Its AI algorithms and stabilization features will make it easier to capture smooth videos while simplifying the overall video creation. HONOR has again confirmed that the Robot Phone will be the first device to feature the result of technical collaboration with ARRI. That said, we still don’t know its actual specs. We’ll probably have to keep waiting for that.
