Google will actually allow you to create your own widget. The company announced a feature called ‘Create My Widget’ during the Android Show I/O Edition. This is a feature for Android, by the way.
Google said that the feature will first arrive to Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones. That will happen this summer. So, how will this work? Well, all you’ll have to do is describe what you want.
‘Create My Widget’ Android feature allows youu to build your own widget
You’ll need to do that using your natural language. Here’s an example Google used. You can ask it to “suggest three high-protein meal prep recipes every week,” to get a custom dashboard that you can add and resize on your home screen.

On the other hand, if you’re a cyclist, for example, you can ask it to create a weather widget that just surfaces specific stats on your home screen. Wind speed and rain are good examples for cyclists.
Gemini will also be able to pull information from the web and connect with Google apps to build a single, personalized dashboard. So, for example, if you’re planning a specific trip, it will be able to pull your flight and hotel details, surface restaurant reservations, and so on.
This is pushing genrative AI deeper into Android OS
Google obviously plans to push generative AI deeper into Android, this is a clear indication. We’ll see more such features moving forward, that’s for sure.
We wonder what the limitations of the feature are. It does not seem like it will be able to create more complex widgets or anything like that, at least not yet. We’ll see, though.
“This is like you asking your personal assistant a question, and having them just bring you the answer on repeat,” said Ben Greenwood, a director at Android Core Experiences. He also added: “So think of it as asking Gemini things about the world, things about its knowledge of what’s going on and events, as well as things about your personal data. Those are sort of the two areas that unlock an enormous number of use cases that we’re super excited about.”
This announcement came hand-in-hand with the announcement of Gemini Intelligence.
