Google could be looking to bring the Pixel screenshots app to non-Pixel devices, specifically the desktop. If you’re not aware of Pixel Screenshots, that’s understandable. It’s a feature specific to Pixel phones and even then, it’s only available on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series. So if you have an older device, you’re locked out of it.
That’s a shame, as it can be a pretty handy tool for searching for information based on screenshots you’ve taken on your device. Say you found something online and you don’t really have time to write down what it is or take a note. But you want to remember what it is when you come back to it later. Take a screenshot. This makes it easy to reference what you found. What Pixel Screenshots would do is use on-device AI to organize the screenshots you took. This way you had what was essentially a library of images you saved that you could reference at a later point. Google will potentially be bringing this to the desktop space.
Pixel Screenshots could make its way to desktop via Google’s Aluminum OS
While Google might have plans to bring this desktops, it’s not likely going to be added to platforms like Windows, Mac, or Linux. Rather, it seems Google might be looking to offer this on Aluminum OS. As reported by Android Authority, they were able to get a desktop release version of the app activated through the Play Store.
The version is listed as version 1.26.151.00.desktop.release. So it seems pretty clear that Google is at least experimenting with this idea on laptops and such. Whether or not it actually launches is another story. The release appears to have been updated on April 14, 2026. That’s quite recent, so Google was doing work on it not too long ago. Naturally, any hardware with Aluminum OS on it would also need on-device AI capabilities for this to work. So it might not be on every single device running on the operating system. If it’s being added to Aluminum OS in the first place. It does seem like the most likely candidate though.
