Google officially launched Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live throughout its mobile app ecosystem after an initial preview at Google I/O 2026. This update integrates Gemini audio models directly into your everyday productivity apps, so you can ask questions about your Gmail inbox, write documents on Docs, and manage your daily tasks in real-time voice conversations instead of typing.
The rollout shifts how people usually interact with core Workspace tools. It removes traditional search bars and blank pages in favor of a conversational “chat-like” interface. The new features listen to natural speech, process context in the background, and allow users to interrupt at any time or switch topics midway through a session without losing track of previous statements or restarting the session.
Conversational inbox search and hands-free drafting
In Gmail Live, tapping the new Live icon in the search bar allows you to ask direct questions about your email history. You can request things like tracking down flight gate numbers, event details, or updates on a child’s school week. The full-screen interface provides a real-time transcript alongside direct links pointing to the source emails. This eliminates the need to read through lengthy reply chains manually.
Docs Live is a co-writer for conversational drafting of summaries, proposals, and outlines. The tool is accessible via a “Create with voice” option in the Google Docs floating action button (FAB). It listens to unstructured brainstorming and generates a structured first draft. With user permission, Docs Live pulls relevant context from connected Gmail, Drive, Chat, and general web sources, providing a quick recap of the information before formatting the document.
Stream-of-consciousness notes and subscription tiers
For quick note-taking, Keep Live processes rapid audio brain dumps into structured lists and formatted notes. The assistant interprets natural stream of consciousness—like mentioning ingredients for pesto pasta or adding bananas to a grocery list—and reflects the intent by creating new notes or automatically updating existing lists. Users can also edit notes verbally during the same session, such as asking Keep Live to check off specific items. An inline preview displays what the system generated after just a few seconds.
The new features are rolling out this week to mobile platforms (Android and iOS) in English worldwide. Google plans a release for Google Workspace business customers in the near future. Gmail Live is available to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. Keep Live is available on Android for AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra users. Docs Live remains restricted to higher-tier AI Pro and Ultra accounts.
