Zack from the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel managed to get his hands on the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold. That means only one thing… it’s time for a Pixel 11 Pro Fold durability test. That’s exactly what happened.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold did not do well in durability tests
A 9-minute video was published on the channel, and you can see it below. It shows several tests that Zack usually performs, such as a scratch test, a burn test, and a bend test. So, let’s see how the phone fared.
Before we start talking about this video, it’s worth noting that the Pixel Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold all broke during the bend test. So basically, all foldables from Google had the same fate during the bend test. Spoiler alert! The Pixel 11 Pro Fold didn’t do any better, but more on that later.
The cover display has good scratch resistance
Let’s start with the scratch test, as that’s the first test in the video. Scratches on the cover display appear after a level 6 pick was used, with deeper grooves at a level 7. That’s basically a standard for smartphone displays these days.
The main display is a different story. That one is much easier to scratch, as expected. You only need a level 2 pick in order to damage it. Yes, your fingernail can do some damage as well.
The frame is made out of aluminum, and so are the buttons, it seems. The SIM card tray has a rubber seal around it, which helped Google achieve an IP68 certification for this device. It’s the only foldable that offers that level of water and dust resistance.
Plastic is used on the back
Google used “composite glass” on the back, which is basically plastic.
The next test is a burn test. This one is not particularly useful, but it’s fun. The main display managed to last for 20 seconds under direct flame before getting permanently damaged, longer than expected.
What about the cover display? Well, it managed to last around 13 seconds before getting permanently damaged. The pixels did not recover.
Zack also performed a dust test, which the phone did not pass. Dust managed to get inside the hinge. He did use a lot of dust, though. We’d suggest you to avoid doing anything close to that. In fact, keeping that phone from dust would be the best idea.
The bend test turned out to be the phone’s Achilles heel… again
The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold did not survive the bend test. Google did not move the antenna lines from sensitive positions, which made the phone vulnerable to bending. In fact, not only did the phone bend out of shape and die, but the cover display popped out as well.
