Google’s Pixel Watch 5 is Google’s next smartwatch and it’s poised to be announced at the upcoming Made by Google hardware event that takes place every year, but ahead of Google’s event, the watch is already showing up in the Google Health app as a device that users can connect to it. This is essentially Google outing its own unannounced device ahead of time. This wouldn’t be the first time Google has done this, either.
It’s not the first time that the Pixel Watch 5 has leaked, but the difference is that this comes straight from Google through its own app. Whereas past leaks have come from sources outside of Google, which always leaves a little bit of room for questioning validity. There’s no questioning the device showing up in an official Google app prior to its announcement, though.
The Pixel Watch 5 shows up in the Google Health app, but doesn’t divulge any device details
While the Pixel Watch 5 does show up in the health app, and you can tap on it to select as the device you want to connect, the process doesn’t work, obviously, since there is no Pixel Watch 5 to connect in the first place.
The app also does not divulge any device details or specs information. What it does show is that the watch is coming. The device showing up in Google Health as a device option was initially reported on by Android Authority, who cites receiving information about the sighting from a user on Telegram.
The Pixel Watch 5 most recently showed up in leaks on July 14 and on July 23. It was also spotted back in June after Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford reportedly received the watch from a friend who found it while diving. Design-wise, the Pixel Watch 5 doesn’t deviate much from the Pixel Watch 4. It does, however, come in new colors according to the leaks.
