Android Auto has been one of the areas that’s getting some attention from Google lately. The company recently rolled out welcome fixes for the crashes many users complained about. Today, we’re seeing another neat addition. Android Auto is reportedly rolling out speedometer support in Google Maps. While it took its sweet time, the feature is finally here.
Android Auto users are finally getting a Google Maps speedometer
Google Maps took years to add speed limit support, and bringing a live speedometer to Android Auto has taken even longer. What’s interesting is that Google introduced the feature for Apple CarPlay back in July 2024, and it’s been there on Android phones for a long time now. Interestingly enough, Wave has supported Speedometer on Android Auto for years now.Â
Well, it sure looks like Android Auto users are about to get it too. On Reddit, at least a couple of Android Auto users report that they’re seeing the speedometer appear on their dashboard. One user in Canada spotted the feature while running Android Auto beta version 26.29.02.946673643.
Not completely widespread yet
That said, it doesn’t look to be a widespread rollout just yet, as not everyone is seeing this. There aren’t any other reports online either. As with most Android Auto features, it could take some time before it rolls out to everyone. So it’s okay if you don’t see the feature just yet.Â
Regardless, it’s still good news for many that Google is finally bringing this to Android Auto. We will update once it is more widely available. In the meantime, Google recently rolled out fixes for Android Auto issues, such as crashes and disconnections, that were disrupting the user experience following the 17.2 update. Beta users need to update to 17.3.662813, while stable users need to update to 17.2.66238 to resolve these issues.
