Google Health app is getting a new 5.03 update on Android and iOS, and this packs in quite a lot. To recall, Google Health got off to a shaky start, but the company promised to bring in changes to improve the experience. Well, Google is standing by it, as there’s a lot to uncover here. Before that, it’s worth noting that the update to the Android app is rolling out in phases over the next week, so not everyone might see it right away.
Google Health app 5.03 update lets you add more health metrics to the Today tab
The Google Health 5.03 update lets you add more metric tiles to the Today tab. You can now add HRV, breathing rate, SpO2, resting heart rate, skin temperature variation, blood glucose, mindful days and minutes, resilience protein, and fat and carb intake, and a friend leaderboard. All these metrics were previously available in the Health tab. This change makes it convenient to have a glance and track daily progress.
In Sleep updates, Google Health is making some changes. Naps greater than 20 minutes will now count towards your 24-hour total sleep duration. This is available in your daily sleep view in the Sleep tab. Here, you can also view trends over time for your main sleep and total sleep (main sleep and naps) sessions. Google notes that your Today metric tile will continue to show your main sleep duration.
In addition to improvements, Google is also fixing swim metrics. It has fixed a bug that incorrectly displayed the distance and units for swimming exercises. It addressed elevation discrepancies with Strava.
iOS version is catching up
For iOS, the Google Health 5.03 update brings easier reordering of key metrics on the Health tab by just dragging and dropping. Users can order them any way they want. It brings improved food search, with results now showing serving units and calories to make it easier to find what you want to log. Lastly, recorded naps are now easier to find and view over time.Â
It’s worth noting that these features were previously available on the Android app with the 5.02 release.
