Google Family Link, a feature designed to help parents monitor and control their children’s smartphone usage, is facing a new bug that reportedly blocks outgoing calls on supervised devices. Several users have already reported the issue online. It basically prevents children from placing calls, which can be concerning, especially in urgent situations.
Users report a critical Google Family Link bug that blocks outgoing calls
The critical bug was first reported by a Google Family Link user on Reddit. As per the post, the phone displays an error message whenever a call is being placed from the supervised devices. The message says the call is blocked due to system parental controls. It also suggests users try a different redirecting app or contact support. In the reported case, both children using the Samsung Galaxy A16 phones were affected.
The incoming calls and other functions continue to work normally. However, the inability to make calls can be quite concerning. Since multiple users have reported the issue, the bug is not isolated.
There’s a temporary workaround available
Some users have added that there’s a temporary workaround available. You can try to fix the issue by disabling and re-enabling supervision within the app. However, do keep in mind that the solution is limited. Parents of children under 13 cannot toggle supervision off, which basically makes the workaround inaccessible to them. They may try deleting the children’s account and setting it up again, as some users have suggested this fix.
The issue has already been raised on Google support forums. However, the tech giant has not yet acknowledged the issue, leaving us uncertain about the patch. Until an official fix arrives, impacted users are advised to try the aforementioned workarounds. They may also raise the issue on the support forum and contact the support, as this may help the company notice the issue faster.
