In separate announcements, Google has announced that AI overviews and Ask Gemini in Drive are now rolling out. The new development comes after both features were introduced to Google Drive in March as part of beta. These new additions to Google Drive will make the experience seamless for users by providing AI overviews and having advanced conversations.
Google Drive is now rolling out ‘Ask Gemini’ and ‘AI Overviews’ features
Gemini-powered AI overviews in Google Drive will deliver a quick summary of information pulled from multiple files without you needing to manually search each one for details. Gemini will do the heavy lifting for you, scanning your documents to provide AI-generated summaries at the top of your results. It summarizes the most relevant information from your files.
You can search for files and folders with natural, everyday language, and Gemini will offer a summary. The feature can be very handy for quick fact-finding. AI Overviews in Google Drive are starting to roll out in English first. The support for 28 additional languages will arrive by the end of May.
Ask Gemini is more advanced
‘Ask Gemini’ in Google Drive lets you have “high-context, multi-turn” conversations about content across Drive, Workspace apps, and the web. The feature is also ideal for those who want to save their conversations with the chatbot. This way, they can also revisit them in the future without starting over.
Furthermore, users also gain access to Drive projects with Ask Gemini. This is a new collaboration feature that brings key files and emails into a single spot, while allowing Gemini to tap into this context for a more seamless conversation.
Availability
Ask Gemini in English has already started rolling out as of April 22nd. The support for 28 additional languages is also coming around early May. Both these AI features (AI Overviews and Ask Gemini) will be available to users on the Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus plans, the Google AI Pro for Education add-on, and Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.
