Google Chrome users may soon notice updates arriving far more often. In a recent development, Google has announced an accelerated update release schedule for its Chrome browser. With this move, the tech giant aims to strengthen the browser’s security and deliver improvements faster.
Google announces accelerated update release schedule for Chrome
Google recently confirmed that its Chrome development cycle will now move to a faster timetable. Until now, the firm followed a six-week milestone pattern before shifting to a four-week rhythm in 2021. The change, announced in the year 2021, already made users feel the update is being rolled out too frequently. And now, the company plans an even more accelerated approach designed to respond to security threats and modern web demands.
Starting this year, Google will roll out a new Chrome update every two weeks. This accelerated update cycle is expected to start with Chrome 153, planned for September 8. As per the statement, the change will apply across desktop platforms and Android and iOS devices. Further, beta builds will follow a faster update frequency. It will arrive three weeks before each stable release, giving developers early access to features, fixes, and browser improvements before the public release.
The browser is a crucial part of the tech space, and it needs frequent fixes
Web browsers are among the most important parts of our daily tech landscape. It is a constant gateway to email, banking, work tools, and cloud platforms, which makes them attractive targets for hackers searching for vulnerabilities to exploit. A faster release schedule will allow Google to push security patches, improvements, and stability fixes to users sooner. This will eventually reduce the window where attackers might take advantage of known software weaknesses.
For everyday users, the new accelerated update schedule won’t dramatically change or improve their browser experience. Most security fixes happen under-the-hood, and it doesn’t always affect the functions of the browser.
