Choosing a processor used to be simple for Samsung‘s foldable lineup. However, it seems those days are over. After breaking tradition last year by introducing Exynos SoCs to the Flip series, everyone is wondering what the 2026 generation will bring. Well, a recent rumor suggests we might see a mix of familiar power chips for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Wide to stay with Snapdragon chips
If you prefer Qualcomm’s hardware, the news for the larger models is encouraging. According to tech tipster Erencan Yılmaz, both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will likely stick with Snapdragon processors. Specifically, industry insiders point toward the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
These wouldn’t be standard chips, either. They are expected to be “for Galaxy” versions. This moniker usually means a boost in CPU frequencies and more in-depth customization for Galaxy devices. While the Fold 8 might look similar to previous years, the “Wide” model would be a completely new entry in the lineup.
The Flip 8 remains the wild card
The situation for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is a bit more complicated. There is still some uncertainty about whether Samsung will use Exynos, Snapdragon, or perhaps even both depending on the region.
History gives us a hint, though. Older reports suggest the Exynos 2600 might be the chosen SoC for the Flip 8, which makes sense given that its predecessor was the first to make the switch. It seems Samsung is becoming more confident in using its own silicon for its smaller, more lifestyle-oriented foldable.
When will we know for sure?
Samsung typically unveils its new foldable generation toward the end of the summer. Until then, everything is based on early code sightings and industry rumors. We still don’t have details on pricing, but the potential arrival of a new “Wide” model suggests Samsung is ready to expand its foldable portfolio even further this year.
