Earlier this month, Samsung rolled out a new firmware update for the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 7. However, it was only available in the company’s home country, South Korea, at that time. Well, that’s changing now. Samsung is now rolling out the May 2026 security update for the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 7 and Watch Ultra in the US. Before you get all excited, this mainly focuses on improving security.
Galaxy Watch 8 security update is now rolling out in the US
The new update for the Samsung wearables brings the May 2026 security patch, which includes fixes for a total of 36 security issues. So it’s essential to install the update as and when it hits your unit. This makes the devices more secure than before. Ensure you’re connected to a stable Wi-Fi network and have the battery charged.
The update carries the firmware versions L330XXS2AZE1 and L310XXS2BZE1. It is apparently rolling out for all the variants (Bluetooth/LTE) of the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Watch 7 (review). It seems the Galaxy Watch Ultra is also receiving the latest firmware to make it more secure.
The update improves security
Besides South Korea and now the US, the update is reportedly available in other major regions, including Europe and South Asia. If you’re from any of these regions, you should see an update notification shortly. That said, since this is just a security update, there won’t be any new features or improvements on board. You’ll have to wait for the next major OS update to get the taste of those.
You can check for the update by heading to the Samsung Wearable app > Watch settings > Watch software update. If there’s an update, you’ll see an update available prompt. Tap Download and install. Once that is done, the watch will reboot to complete the installation process.
