Samsung is seemingly bringing a familiar silicon partner for its next generation of flagship tablets. Recent findings suggest that this strategy will not change in the short term. The upcoming Galaxy Tab S12 series will likely feature MediaTek‘s latest high-end chip, the Dimensity 9500, rather than a Snapdragon alternative, according to a recent leak.
Galaxy Tab S12 series leak points to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 chip
The information surfaced through a teardown of Samsung’s AI Core app conducted by Android Authority. Inside the app’s files, researchers found references to a chipset with the model number “MT6993.” That specific ID is for the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, a chip that Samsung has yet to officially confirm for any of its devices. Given the timing of the leak, the Galaxy Tab S12 series stands as the most logical candidate for this hardware.
Built for performance and cooling
The Dimensity 9500 is a powerhouse built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm process. It has an octa-core CPU architecture, led by a high-performance C1-Ultra core running at 4.21GHz. For those who use their tablets for entertainment, reports suggest this chip handles long gaming sessions with better thermal management than some of its competitors.
It may not win every benchmark battle against rival chips like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Still, it focuses on delivering a smooth and cool experience during any intensive task.
Creative AI tools + S Pen combo
Beyond raw speed, the Galaxy Tab S12 series seems destined to be a canvas for Samsung’s expanding Galaxy AI suite. The app teardown revealed several tools that could make their way to the new tablets, including AI wallpaper generation and generative photo editing.
Lastly, the files mention a “Harmonization” feature that seems particularly interesting. This tool would adjust lighting, color, and contrast in edited photos to ensure the most natural result possible in AI-generative additions to images.
Overall, the Galaxy Tab S12 could arrive as a powerful creators’ tool thanks to these features and S Pen support.
