Samsung’s upcoming high-end smartphones, the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+, could finally get a new main camera sensor. According to a new report from the GalaxyClub, Samsung is testing a new Sony sensor.
The Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ could get a main camera upgrade
It is worth saying that just because Samsung is testing this new sensor doesn’t mean it will be used in the phone. It’s still too early to tell, but the company is obviously planning to change things up.
These are welcomed news, even though the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are tipped to use the same 12-megapixel ultrawide camera that was used in the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+.
The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra, on the other hand, are expected to get a new 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and also a new selfie camera. That report surfaced earlier this month.
We still don’t know what sensor this is
The source of the news did not mention what camera sensor from Sony is in testing, unfortunately. Still, this news is still rather intriguing. Why? Well, if Samsung ends up using a Sony sensor for the main camera on the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+, it will be the first time in years that the company will go for a non-ISOCELL sensor for the main camera in that lineup.
All three Galaxy S smartphones have been rocking an ISOCELL camera sensor for the main camera for years. That includes the Galaxy S Ultra series as well. Things could obviously change moving forward.
It would also be nice to see an upgrade for the 12-megapixel ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+, but it doesn’t seem like that’s in Samsung’s plans. The company is focusing on the main camera this time around. Well, at least based on this report. Things could, of course, change as we come closer to the launch date in Q1 next year.
