According to a new report from Korea, at least some Galaxy S27 series models will use LPDDR5X RAM. Some of you may remember that initial rumors suggested that all Galaxy S27 models would use LPDDR6 RAM, but that won’t be happening.
While there’s still a chance that some Galaxy S27 models will get LPDDR6 RAM, it’s not likely
That rumor was disputed not long ago, as it seems like component prices managed to change Samsung’s mind. There is still a chance that some models will get LPDDR6; however, based on this report.
The Bell says that Samsung is conducting quality tests on Micron’s LPDDR5X memory built on its cutting-edge 1y process. It is Micron’s equivalent ot the 1c DRAM generation from Samsung and SK Hynix, it is said.
Samsung actually managed to get its hands on this memory in H2 2025. That memory was expected to be used in the Galaxy S26 series, but Samsung didn’t end up doing that.
Now, even if this memory passes Samsung’s testing, that doesn’t mean the company will end up using it in the Galaxy S27 series. Its higher pricing may prevent the company from including it. Micron usually charges 20% to 30% more for new-gen chips.
This time around, however, Micron could quote prices up to 50% higher than Samsung Device Solutions, Samsung’s in-house memory division. There’s still a price gap between what Micron is asking for and what Samsung is offering.
If Samsung ends up using LPDDR6 RAM, only the Galaxy S27 Pro and/or Galaxy S27 Ultra will get it
The Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra still have a chance of getting LPDDR6 RAM. That RAM could be paired with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, aka Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, whichever name Qualcomm goes for.
It is almost certain that the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will not use LPDDR6 RAM. Those two devices will almost certainly rely on LPDDR5X RAM.
