Smartphone displays that exhibit green and pink lines seemingly out of nowhere. Where have we heard that one before? It’s actually not as uncommon as you think, but unfortunately, it looks like Samsung Galaxy S23 owners have recently run into pink display issues, and some of them are blaming it on the One UI 8.5 update.
Galaxy S23 owners run into pink display issues
Earlier this month, Samsung started to roll out the One UI 8.5 update to more of its phones, including the Galaxy S23. However, it seems that following the update, some Galaxy S23 owners noticed pink and green lines running down the display of their phones.Â
These complaints were noticed across platforms like Reddit, X, and Samsung’s own forums. Some are also noticing that following the update, there were other issues like the screen zooming in and out of its own, frequent lag and stuttering, font size and display scaling changing randomly and flickering.
Like we said, this isn’t the first time we’ve come across these problems. However, the better question is, is it really a problem with the update? Not everyone seems to think so.
One UI 8.5 might not be to blame, heat might be
According to some of the comments on Reddit, the update isn’t the issue. Instead, they point to heat being a problem. This is because during the update process, the phone gets pretty hot. As a result of the heat, pink lines can appear on the display. It also seems that the majority of these complaints originated from India, which is usually hot and humid.
If you are still holding onto your Galaxy S23 and have yet to update to One UI 8.5, keep that in mind. Make sure that your phone is sufficiently charged and don’t leave it plugged in while updating. The charging process only generates more heat. Also, make sure that you’re in an environment that is relatively cool.
Of course, not all devices are affected, so your mileage may vary. However, as Samsung’s replacement program for Galaxy S23 units affected by green and pink lines ended last year, you should probably take that into consideration.
